Dylan,

RCD hasn't taken ANY STEPS, which is a far cry of taking even "the smallest steps." It'd be different if he asked for help on top of the advice, but he doesn't. He pops up every 3-4 months here asking about step 10 of the process when he hasn't even considered or undertaken steps 1-9 yet. He gets frustrated, retreats only to appear a few months later asking about step 11. It'd be different if he actually had a 501c3 in process, or needed some advice on what to do while it was pending, etc. instead, he just keeps rehashing the same stuff over and over, not willing to listen or even expand upon the comments. He cannot constructively engage the board. Frankly I think he just expects MBTA to drop an F40PH off at Shelburne falls one day without work.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting a different result.

The F40PH Preservation Society is a corporation everything is right here http://corp.sec.state.ma.us/corp/corpse ... =264650315 for all to see.

All excellent advice that probably won't be listened to or followed.

I do listen, In fact I owe great gratitude to Harry Nicholls a member on this site who helped me get this organization off the ground and incorporated.

There is nothing that is applicable to railroad preservation under Kick Starter. Also since the organization hasn't taken in

Alexander D. Mitchell IV I would love to have a genuine Amtrak phase 3 F40PH As they are the best representation but the MBTA units seem to be the most likely candidates.

On what basis do you make that assertion?

I don't see any obvious omissions in the Articles. I don't like "wall of text" in capital letters, makes it hard to read.

That's the thing I was talking about with "if you have a company with some age, IRS will want to see documentation of those past fiscal years." So you've got FY2011 and FY2012 that you'll need to summarize on your Form 1023, and IRS will want to know why you didn't file Form 990s for those years. If the answer is "there's been no activity", that too may draw scrutiny: "why not?"

If you have not collected any significant assets, it may be more expedient to prepare your Form 1023 and Bylaws if you haven't, and create a new corporation with no history.

Hmm, have you been filing your Form 990 annual informational returns?

Kickstarter isn't topic-based. It's a fundraiser for anything. It does not magically draw supporters to you, you have to do most of the promotion.

Kickstarter is the most famous crowdfunding site, but it doesn't support 501c3 tax deductible donations. Most railroad museums are 501c3, so most of them are going to use another site which does. That's not an issue for you, so I'd go for the more famous one.
