I was in New Freedom yesterday and rode the noon train to Hanover Jct. and return, powered by 44-tonner No. 10. Even so, it was a pleasant journey.

On my return, I spoke with the fellows hard at work on No. 17. They were buttoning her back up following the monthly boiler wash and were confident she would be hot today. Indeed, the SIH website indicates this morning that the engine is available for service today. It's a beautiful, sunny day in Pennsylvania. What better thing to do than ride behind a brand new steam locomotive?

Incidentally, they also reported the engine is performing very well, marching right up the grade with three cars without missing a beat. However, they noted the engine is a bit slippery when it's rainy.
