Every photo I could find of the train shows a Budd baggage car, not a former troop kitchen, as being on the train...

Rechecking for shots of the Acadian train has turned up a few poor shots of this car in service on the train, though details are not shown in any of them...

16. M&StL 56 seat coach #52 (Budd, 1948, #9613-007) sold 1957 to CRI&P as #363 Herington sold (when??) to Hank Frazier (Ruston, LA) sold (when??) to Denver Railcar (DRCX) #3363 Silver Queen (#800021) leased to Texas Southern--does anyone know the current status/location of this car??

Its worth noting that sometime after being sold off by CRIP the car saw some use for several years (1977 to 1989 at least) on the Ashley Drew & Northern without name nor number...

In looking back at the information I have on this car I found that the car used on the AD&N was M&StL 51/CRIP 367 Armourdale and not M&StL 52/CRIP 363 Herington as I previously had stated. I do apologize for the mistake but glad that I have found the correct information.

While not tied to this thread does anyone know what happened to the car after it left AD&N, or might it still be on the remaining lines Fordyce & Princeton or Arkansas Louisiana & Mississippi???

I know this is an old thread, but I recently ran across a couple news items in the Chicago Tribune that specifically mention Denver Railcar, or as shown in the articles, Denver Railway Car Company, and its subsidiary DRC Rail Tours.

The articles mention that DRC was based in Houston and was owned by John Randolph "Randy" Parten, president of the family-owned Parten Oil Company. The company operated the Texas Limited luxury train between Houston and Galveston. In 1986, Parten bought 47 "vintage" train cars with the idea of re-creating luxury train travel. In September 1994, the company announced that it would operate the South Orient Express, planned for a five-day one-way tour on board eight cars departing Fort Worth on October 6, 1994, traveling to Presidio, Texas, then into Mexico to visit Copper Canyon. Earlier trips to Copper Canyon had started in February 1994. These earlier trips started on February 22, departing from El Paso and traveling to Chihuahua, Creel, and Los Mochis, to Copper Canyon. This earlier reference showed that DRC owned 54 cars. (Chicago Tribune, February 13, 1994; September 25, 1994)

Don,

Thanks for finding this interesting info on Denver Railcar! Given those stated roster totals, there are several cars which have yet to be identified!

From the Rip Van Winkle thread: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42401

This nee-Peoria Route chair was acquired by Delaware & Ulster at the 2004 DRCX auction, same as the nee-MP dome chair and also:

AT&SF baggage-express-messenger #3519 (Budd, 1953, Job #9601-135), sold 1971 to AMTK #1035, converted 1980 to HEP as #1169, wrecked 7-1987, resold 1989 to DRCX.

Found this photo of a 6-6-4 in Crockett, TX

Could this be the ex-CB&Q car that Denver Railcar had purchased?

Yes, based on those photos and a reply in the Surviving Passenger Cars group on Facebook, those are indeed 2 of the DRCX cars, located at the ranch owned by Randy Parten, owner of DRCX.

CB&Q 6S-6RM-4DB sleeper #462 Silver Hyacinth, 1970 to BN, sold 1971 to AMTK #2152, later stored, resold 1983 to DRCX? (could've been another owner in between AMTK and DRCX), DRCX #462, assigned #800022, Budd, 1952, Job #9658-112, Pullman Plan #9530, ordered for American Royal Zephyr.

SAL 48 seat diner #6111, to SCL #5916, sold 1971 to AMTK #8016, retired 1981, resold 1983 to Excursion Lines, later resold to DRCX #6111, Budd, 1947, Job #9624-009, apparently not assigned a Silver-series name by DRCX; this car appears to have some significant wreck damage at the dining (table) end, which would perhaps explain why it wasn't acquired by an excursion operation/shortline at the auction. Any info as to when and where it was wrecked?

I worked for both Rader railcar and Denver railway services. Not sure if they are associated with Denver rail car. We were building the Marlborough party train in the 90's that was nearly completed but never finalized and later scrapped except a few cars. If I remember right it was 22 cars.

Denver railway services was mostly work associated with the American Orient Express. We did heavy overhaul work. We did some private passenger car rehabilitation as well as some locomotive repainting. We worked in a abandon foundry that used to make bombs during World War 2. My grandfather was the foreman there.

I've never seen any mention that Rader Railcar/Denver RY Services/Colorado Railcar had a shared corporate ownership or history with Denver Railcar. As posted earlier in this thread by Don Strack, Denver Railcar (DRCX) was owned by Randy Parten out of Houston, and DRCX was either the owner/operator or was involved with several different lines and operations, including the Roaring Fork Railroad, the Texas Southern/Texas Limited, the Mexican American Railway/South Orient Express/Copper Canyon, and the Acadian. Meanwhile, Tom Rader initially started Rader Railcar out in Tillamook, OR (at the WWII-era blimp hangars), rebuilding former SP commuter cars for use by the cruise companies on the Alaska RR. He then later moved the operation to Colorado and it was eventually renamed Colorado Railcar, still rebuilding and making new cars for service in Alaska as well as some demonstrator DMU's that eventually went into service in places like Miami and Portland, OR. He then also gained ownership of American Orient Express (not to be confused with South Orient Express), with AOE actually having moved their main shop from Fort Lupton, CO, out to Western Junction, WA (northeast of Centralia-Chehalis). So no, unless someone can say for certain to the contrary, from what I can tell, 2 different ownerships.

So is SR 817 still in FL?

Are there any plans for it besides parts?

Yes, still in Florida for the moment.

No, most assuredly not parts.
