This link documents the disposition of many of their locomotives after shutdown. Some are traced into the 2000's.

To help update the list, the two RI locos in Florida were sold to Florida central RR several years ago. FCEN is a bit of an odd shortline, apparently, they later had a change in management and the new manager decided that the broken one (1357?) was "ugly" and needed to be scrapped right away, rather than fixing it as it only had a grounded main generator.
To be more fair, they also scrapped a CF7....that only had a generator cable grounded...apparently they couldn't figure out the problem. Their new motto seems to be: "if you aren't using it right now-scrap it."

I wonder if a U25B is still out there?

Here's one in 1963.

For the record, Rock Island RS-1 #743 is Alco serial number 70817 built 5/43.

I think there is a CRI&P U25B buried under the yard lead at the west end of the Atlantic, Iowa yard, but we'll need a snow blower and metal detector to know for sure....

I agree with Mr. Lisowski, damn fine looking RS-1, and the U25B was a good looking motor in 1963 as well!

...and last but not least, aren't there at least two more CRI&P RS-1s or deviations thereof out there somewhere? I think one in New Orleans and one in Paducah?

Danbury Railway Museum has RI SW-8 #838, which was donated to the museum from Phizer Chemical as their #1
Also Sperry Rail Services has former RI 9050 (SRS141) and RI 9057 (SRS138)
