Don: I agree that the restoration of 9939A is fantastic. But the numbers in the number boards look a little "foreign" to me. It's been a long time...am I wrong?

Beautiful, truly beautiful. You folks did an inspiring job on this lovely loco. I'll have to get back to St.Louis sometime soon and get a few photographs. This is the kind of work I'd love to be getting involved with. It's almost worth moving back to St.Louis for. This is world class and just goes to show how far MOT has come.

Les,
I thought that too, but who am I to critcize such a noble cause. The gentlemen that did the job obviously were under a very short timetable to complete the work. I would also suggest that the louvered side panel at the rear of the fireman's side is not correct either but if this is an operational locomotive, the HEP engine will need the additional air circulation. And there are other modifications that were done over the years that don't allow for a "restoration" (like the pilot) but it is a wonderful "approximation" of a real "Q" E unit. By the way, there was an E8 that was modified for suburban service and had a different type of louvered side panels at the rear. I'll have to go back to my slides to determine which one had the auxiliary power generator. This was prior to the fleet being HEP equipped but was a way to eliminate the need for one of the power cars that were used on the longer trains. There is plenty of time to "correct" the little problems if the money and labor is there. If neither are at this time, I can certainly be VERY happy with the work that has be accomplished by a group of very dedicated individuals.

Pictures of CB&Q E units show that originally they had wider and slightly rounder block-style numbers in the boards with very little space between numbers, but no criticism is intended! I think the guys at MOT have done a beautiful job! I've been longing to see a properly painted CB&Q E9 since I saw recent pictures of the one on display somewhere in Texas with CB&Q paint and BNSF heralds!

Simply an Outstanding Job, My Congrats to all involved in this project. Please send us another shot of her, after the portholes are installed.
Also, is this unit operable, and is there a timeline on getting the Other E-8A unit that is at MOT, to look like this one???
