It worked fine as assembly lube for me, your mileage may vary.

Last weekend the rods and boxes were assembled on the drivers of C&NW 1385. The frame was also lifted, wheels rolled in and set into place. All photos are courtesy of Brian Allen.

In assembly we used a combination of the Schaeffer Lubricants equivalent to STP and PB&J 460. Once the rods & boxes were in place we rolled them back & forth a few times on the outside track just to let the journals get to know each other. After the 2nd move it was amazing how easily the wheelset would move and wanted to roll on its' own. mld
