Useing an electric golf cart drive may not be as "fun" as an ICE but it will be clean and quiet something the general public likes.

The Minnesota Streetcar Museum built a electric speeder many years ago, I assume they still use it.

The folks down at the narrow gauge Doe River Gorge RR in Tennessee have an electric track car powered by a golf cart motor, and they tell me it will pull almost as much as their diesel locomotive.
