Good guy. Private collector. He likes trains!
Also, just a reminder - that is private property.

I know who it is Rob, but for privacy reasons I'd rather not broadcast it.
I think he plans on leaving it right where it is on his property. It's his 'toy'. I know he has been hunting for missing parts because he called me the other day to ask about the availability of something I have access to, but I don't think he has any plans to fire it up.

I hope he can find a proper bell!

Why does this not sound good to me? Was the locomotive in danger of being scrapped?

Seconded. A "collector" can be as bad as a municipality that lets an artifact degrade, only in the case of a private collector we don't have the ability to inspect it. There are acres of hoarded steam locomotives in Southern Oregon that make this point clearly.

Who the hell gives you the right to "inspect" this man's private property?
Few of you know this man, or his intentions. He has no duty to inform you of his intentions. He has now been outed on an open internet site, and his co-ordinates spelled out. This is a serious business.
To the moderators of this site, would it be possible to erase the above comments and the information leading people to this private property?

Ah yes, the Merrill Engines. A few notable ones in there, including a GN 2-8-0, and two Sierra engines. 11 total engines according to steamlocomotive.com

Actually the coordinates are for a PUBLIC trail, not the owners house...

Neither Richard Glueck's nor my post gave any coordinates, I can't speak for Ricard but my post was a general concern about private individuals hoarding steam locomotives. I suggest that you improve your reading comprehension and then apply it to the board before throwing around demands to have posts removed.

My interest is in the preservation of a significant steam locomotive. I have no desire to investigate anyone's property or home. A steam locomotive, whether owned by a city, museum, or private individual is a large responsibility, not to mention an expensive one.
I hope the new owner is up to the task of preservation. I've seen too many of these ventures not well managed to get excited.

The co-ordinates were given on the first page and not credited to you, so no need to play the sanctimony card.
My reading abilities are spot on. The statements, "Why does this not sound good to me?" and "we don't have the ability to inspect it" are very clear and alarming.
You probably do not know the man who owns this locomotive, so you have no right to cast aspersions on his character or lump him in with others. You certainly do not have the right to enter his private property and "inspect" his collection.
Here is a man who came forward with his own resources to preserve our history, and wants to find some enjoyment in doing it. Mind your own business!

Folks... I am locking this thread...

But first a rant.... No one has trespassed on private property... We have made comments about an owner of a locomotive without knowing him or his intentions... We have accused folks of broadcasting the location... apparently to facilitate others trespassing... The locomotive is private property and there is not requirement to allow access...

Thank you, your always friendly moderator...
