I heard an unconfirmed rumor that copper thieves got to the bridge and caused extensive damage. My folks lived between Conway and Myrtle Beach so I kinda kept track of that line a little bit.

The aggregates place is as far south as the line was rehabbed since they're a customer so continuing on into MB from there would cost cubic dollars to rebuild the track. I would tend to think that MB would be a more lucrative terminus but is cost prohibitive in initially getting there. Hence talk going north from Conway instead. Throw in freight trains and insurance costs and you've got a tough nut to crack. Not sayin' it can't be done, but the cards are stacked against it happening.
