Now if we can just figure out how to get Colorado to resemble Hawaii - no palm trees and sand buried under snow right now.... sugar beets but no cane. NOBODY eats SPAM unless they have to......

Would make an interesting event for a photo charter or something to dress it up as a Oahu Railway engine, since those Hawaiian 2-8-2's were basically oil burning K-28 derivatives.

There were lots of cosmetic differnces, the biggest being that the Hawaiian engines had the air compressors on the boiler side, not the smokebox front. It would be a big job to make one look the part.

It looks like DRGW 493 has its compressors on the side too. If anything really would make 493 not look the part, its the tender doghouse. The summer pilot instead of the winter pilot though would go a long way in making 493 look more like its Hawaiian siblings. Still, it wouldn't be a perfect replication; but enough to look kind of similar.

The 490's, i.e. the K-37 class (Baldwin/D&RGW) are not the derivatives of the Hawaiian Locomotives. The K-28 (ALCO) are the ones the Hawaiian Locomotives were build off of.
