That's a kinda weird overreaction. Standard Internet etiquette for decades and decades now has been to take any kind of personal conflict to PM rather than air it on the main forum; I see little but a (reasonable and politely worded) invitation to do the same rather than continue to post suppositions here.

It remains to be seen what the OP had sent to him. If it is a comparable kind of message, I think his complaining about it says more about him than it would about John Rimmasch. On the other hand, if he had said some of the things in a public forum about me that he has intimated about how Mr. Rimmasch will respond to the arbitration and judgment going forward, I'd have some extremely hot PMs for him.

The person sending me the messages constantly called me names for not taking him up on his offer to call him directly. I’d rather handle my communication through the open forum for all to see. The person claimed I wasn’t “getting under his skin” yet sent me three messages in the course of about 35 minutes yesterday.

I tried the friend or for settings and we will see if that puts the kibosh on it. If not I’ll see a “friendly moderator.” We all have bad days. I’m sure the messenger is grappling with what he’s done and I’m willing to give the technological solution a try.

Or you could just civilly post a summary of whatever discussion you have with him, from your perspective. PMs aren't 'protected communications', and I doubt Mr. Rimmasch would tell you anything that is covered by some confidentiality order or NDA.

First Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I believe in the Constitution of the United States of America. I also believe in God. I also believe, even as much as I may not like it, that we have our God given and Constitutional rights and that these rights must at all costs, be protected and saved.

It is true that I am not a fan of the threads that involve me right now. But I also see that we, the American People have the right to express freely what we feel, right or wrong, true or not, just or unjust. I also understand that in today's age, we can feel "uncomfortable" about anything. I am uncomfortable about how I am being treated.....but that does not matter because in the eye of the poster....he/she is right and justified and I am the wrong doer. No matter he truth of the situation.... one of us is right and the other is wrong. So, we must at all costs, protect the one that is "uncomfortable" So, which of the two of us is to be protected and at what cost? Is BSFSRYFAN to be protected more because of his/her discomfort, or am I justified in wanting more comfort as I feel uncomfortable?

Let me tell all of you what happens next. The next step in this game is this: BSFSRYFAN Is going to start to edit my PM's remove the stuff that he/she does not want posted, add in a few words, take out a few words and then start to post what would look to be my PM's to him or her. I've been here...I've had this happen no less than ten times on RYPN. First Amendment right, I guess. "I'm not comfortable so I'll edit and change things so I can show you and prove why it makes me uncomfortable."

This thread and this subject violate the very rules of RYPN. There is not a single ounce of this thread that is preservation oriented. It is personally oriented. It is 100% personally oriented, driven and subjected toward me. Just like no less than 6 other threads on this page are directly aimed, targeted and fired at me, John E. Rimmasch/Wasatch Railroad Contractors.

The rules of RYPN have been changed to read this.....

"All of the rules of RYPN and civility remain strictly in place as long as you are talking about Strasburg or a subject that the general populous agrees with. However, when it comes to subject matters like John E. Rimmasch, PM's hateful posts, editing of pictures and information used to beat him and his company up with, the gloves come off. There are no rules. You can say, do, present anything about WRC and its ownership with no threat of rebuke or punishment. But for all others, remain civil and on subject. Oh yea, and, Leave Ed Dickens and the UP out of it or take it to the railfan forum because we set that page up so you can complain about Ed. This forum (interchange) is now solely designed for the purposes of beating up on WRC and JER. You can beat up on people, as long as you use the correct forum and we suggest strongly that as you post your disdain for others that you hide behind a false name and take no personal credit for the hate you spread."

One day, the larger group of you will wake up and see that 80% of the posters on this board have A.) zero or little experience. B. ) have lost legal actions of their own that have cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions. C.) do not work in the industry or have left the industry because they were fired or in capable of performing or thinking or D.) simply have nothing better to do in life than watch this forum and pick on anybody they can pick on.....or that makes them feel "uncomfortable"

I don't ask much anymore of any of you here on RYPN. Your actions speak louder than your words and a small handful of us see it. Have at me..... I invite all of you, as it is your/my right to exercise your First Amendment rights of free speech. That means, you can say anything about me that you want and like wise, whether comfortable or not, I can afford you the same courtesy.

No matter how uncomfortable I am about all of this....that does not seem to matter. It only matters for the ones that are RIGHT and clearly I am not one of them.

So now that the stage is set well....I am sure that you will see my (edited) PM's.

I guess that is how we roll here. Hey Mods, what's the preservation topic here? No matter, it is against me....so let it go!!!!!!!

One more time,

John E. Rimmasch (I go by JohnE, not Johnny)

jrimmasch@wrrc.us

307-778-7458 office

307-286-2833 text/voice

Score, still Friends 30, Haters 0 on call backs or direct communication with me.

"Hey Mods, what's the preservation topic here?"

In all fairness, there are some, including what happens when a restoration project goes south for some reason.

In this particular case, we have seen some interesting documentation from Jason that shows practices (that I wouldn't think Wasatch would either conduct or, as a supervisor of contract activity, tolerate, btw.) and we have the results of arbitration and a consequent judgment that have found Wasatch responsible for a considerable sum associated with the result. Neither of those things are in dispute, and they do have 'discussable' implications in a number of respects for preservation-organization-related discussions -- including as cautionary tales.

What they are NOT, and I agree with Mr. Rimmasch on this, is another excuse to pile on and start insulting Wasatch without entertaining what he cares to say privately. Nor is it important to start noising off about starting some list of 'bad actor' contractors or whisper about actions to evade a judgment as if they're inevitably bound to result -- while people have the right under the Constitution to say that sort of thing, I also have the unconstitutional right to consider the source and appraise its validity accordingly. As, I think, most of us already may.

I will say that no amount of impassioned posting that does not specifically address the matters of demonstrable practice -- from either "side" -- particularly adds to whatever substantive content is in a discussion thread like this one. That serves no valid preservation purpose I can see.

I'm also of the opinion that a reasonable discussion of whatever has actually taken place on that locomotive, particularly including objective details of what Wasatch engaged in while 'contractor of record', should be appropriate here, in open forum -- if for no other reason than to dispel any contentions of 'covering up' that go with purely private explanations, no matter how good. Note that that is only my personal opinion, not something I exhort any of the 'parties hereto' to engage in, and I fully understand why Mr. Rimmasch does not consider he would get a 'fair hearing' or even 'fair understanding' were he to do so.

(Incidentally, there is a very good way to demonstrate when private communications have been 'edited' or 'taken out of context' improperly -- simply post the relevant original text, and show how the edits were rhetorically slanted... not that this improves either the discourse or the result, but it will show what was objected to.)

Well, I didn’t say it was a bit creepy to get a pm, I said it was a bit creepy for someone to try to obtain personal information from me through a pm.

This is the "spin" BS that has made RYPN so bad.

I asked for ZERO personal information, nor did I demand or imply that I wanted any

"PERSONAL INFORMATION"

I extended an invitation to reach out to me personal, which means, here is my number, here is my email, here is how YOU CAN CONTACT ME.

There are 101 ways to hide your identity if you wanted to take me up on the offer. I never have and I never will ask for "PERSONAL INFORMATION"

See, no matter what I say, or how I say it, it gets spun around to the best interest of those willing to make me look worse than I am.

John E. Rimmasch.....

want my number again? It is in all the other posts..... you won't call me anyway....it would be the sharing of "personal information"

What a load.....!

The problem is that by e-mailing you he thinks he would be providing personal doxxing-quality information in the long header; by phoning you, he would be revealing his phone number to Call ID. Sure, he could get a burner phone or a throwaway e-mail address or alias, but that would take actual work on his part -- and show a certain lack of candor, imho. Let it go. You made the offer; that's sufficient to mention.

One of the drawbacks of free speech is having to endure 'faction'. And sometimes you have to do that when the other side has what they consider temporary triumphs. As with any other form of trolling, much of the 'fun' is in watching the responses, not actually finding some sort of truth.

I think this speaks for itself. Nowhere in his question did BNSFRYFAN mention who was sending him PMs. He simply asked, "how can I block them? I don't want to hear from them."

The fact that you immediately jumped on and outed yourself as the source of those PMs with a personal, slanderous attack on said individual's intentions says more about yourself than it does the person who was simply requesting technical assistance with the forum interface.

I have no intention of posting PM messages that anyone sends me, even from JohnE.

If there is a way I can share them with the moderators, I will find a way. I can barely send an email message, let alone "edit" them. I see no need now because of the advice on how to designate "foes"

I merely asked for technical assistance and didn't want to out the person. As I said earlier we all have bad days and it appears his is continuing.

Thank you.

Actually a great day for me. Thanks for asking. I actually tried to line up a game of golf with my oldest son today. Course is closed. I offered them a huge some of money to open it special for me, but they didn't do it. How is your day going BSFSRYFAN? I hope you aren't twisting in the wind.

I have it. You sent it to me seven times total. That includes four times in about 23 minutes.

So my company, Wasatch Railroad Contractors a registered company in the State of Wyoming in good standing (which Dennis S. when you look up contractors, you should include a State search to see if a contractor is A.) registered B.) up to date on taxes and C.) in good standing. Don't just look at FRA reports.) Anywho...look, WRC took PPP money and we also took some state money during Covid. As part of this process, SBA and the State audit people who took funds. The PPP audit came back today and the PPP Loan for Wasatch was forgiven by SBA, it is public record. You can look that up. The State of Wyoming is auditing the rest of the money we received.

I mention this, because the State of Wyoming has a fully transparent system, you can look it up. But if you care, you can call our CFO and ask her for a full accounting of what this case has cost us. You could get pretty close to the penny. She is good. Just call the numbers I have listed. Ask for me and I'll give her permission to share it all. I don't want any of you to think I'm hiding something.

Wyoming Business Council is where you can find the monies we have taken during COVID-19. Need the link?

Need the number again?

307-778-7458

Ask for me. JohnE (not Johnny)

Score has changed in the last hour, we are now;

34 to -0- Haters, zero.

Good grief, John. What on earth does a PPP loan forgiveness have to do with quality workmanship? We're talking apples and oranges. I am sure we are all pleased that Wasatch was able to secure the funding, keep crews employed and ultimately get the monies forgiven. That was the purpose of the funds.

I think it is terrible that one or more members have tried to send another member pms. I've known people who have suffered from the monthly bloating, cramping, and wild mood swings associated with pms and I would not wish it on anyone. That said, from the postings in this and related threads, I'd say there is one poster in particular that I'd suspect is suffering terribly from pms and has been for a long time.
