Yes. A deal has been struck and the turntable and the site have been cleaned up, table partially disassembled, and prepped for removal. There are multiple parties involved (including Metrolink) with the logistics, messaging, and timing, so details will be announced at a later date.

There was no damage or defect found that would preclude a return to service.

EXCELLENT news. It makes me extremely happy when artifacts like this, especially still useful ones can be saved and re-used. On a side note, does anybody know what ended up happening to the turntable the ITM had that was supposedly stored on a flat car on a siding?

That is an excellent question. I expect the answer will be sad.

The museum has two turntables, a 100 foot one from Frisco's Lindenwood yard and a 60 foot one from the Marylnd & Pennsylvania. No more needed there.

I see the 60' Ma & Pa table is on display by the parking lot. Where to they have the Firsco table?

The surrounding areas have also been extensively redeveloped as of late with a new Ikea built and the former foundry turned into an entertainment complex with the rail spur pulled up.

Was this a railroad shops foundry or a separate foundry company?

It is located on the lower lot of the museum, used as a bridge for the miniature train over a small pond. Easy to miss.

The Wabash turntable served a roundhouse and engine terminal on the Wabash passenger route into St Louis Union Station, now the route of the MetroLink light rail line.

Ron,

What is the backstory of how NMT acquired the Ma & Pa turntable?

Thanks!

The back story was that Jack White, then Curator of Transportation at the Smithsonian, was aware of the Sellers turntable at Delta, PA, on the MA & PA and made the museum aware of its significance. Arrangements were made with the railroad and a crane and rigging firm to remove it and ship it to the St Louis area. At the time is was thought to be the last of its type in the US and probably in North America. There were some others in Central America and also in Australia, where some copies had been made as well. I'm sorry I don't have a date handy but it was there when I started working at the museum in 1995.
