Facebook killed all those described.

Those "groups" all died, and those crotchety types that wouldn't adapt, died with them.

Those groups basically co-existed at the beginning of widespread internet use.

When FB came along, they perished, and good riddance.

I had joined many interesting Yahoo groups... mostly file sharing in various interests...There was a Yahoo group consisting of Chrysler 300m (automobile) owners. It got to where they wanted me to PAY to be able to access info on the group... any of the files. I got off there, quick. You can learn way more on google and youtube.
