I ran into that same conundrum seventeen tabs deep into trying to figure everything out here.

That may say "NJ 1548" on it, BUT that loco PLAINLY looks like an unrebuilt Alco RS3. In 2006, according to the photo data. IF we accept that, then someone would have had to have rebuilt an RS3M with an EMD 567 BACK into an Alco-powered loco around 2000 or so, complete with original long hood............ I don't see that happening.

I have checked with people who should have known what was happening with the specific loco in question. Last reported in the dead line of potential "preservation projects" at Winslow Junction, NJ after a falling-out between the owner and the operator, and this page says it was scrapped:

The caption and comment say much more--but all we really need at this point is that she was scrapped in 2008, and that account looks accurate.

UPDATE: Another of my New Jersey associates tells me that the owner put some considerable effort towards restoring the original Alco appearance of WJ 91 from its rebuilt appearance during its time in New Jersey--which would explain the Alco stack.......
