I would ask whether the museum can afford to spend money on models that may NOT be historically accurate. If the best current research confirms the accuracy of one or more of the Pangborn models, then by all means let's fix those. After all, the models may have been constructed based on documents that no longer exist. However, if one or more are known to be bogus, store them (if practical) as a low-priority project, and then, if and when they are repaired, clearly label them as the historic curiosities they are.

The Pangborn models were exhibited at the St. Louis and Chicago fairs and seeded the B&O museum. One of the exhibitions was detailed in the Book of the Royal Blue, Vo. 7, No. 1, October 1903. Most of these were displayed at many events around the country for decades.
Although most of the exhibition was of railroad stock and replicas, I am interested in the steam road vehicle replicas.

As reported in the San Francisco Examiner, Sunday, June 3, 1923 article "Doble Steamer Parade Monday". the Trevithick coach, the James steam coach, the Cugnot fardier and the Macerone and Squire steam coach were paraded. The San Francisco parade and a similar parade in Oakland were chamber of commerce shows heralding the groundbreaking of Doble Steam Motors in Emeryville, California.

I can only assume that these four replicas were Pangborn models but it is difficult to find pictures of the Pangborn models and the California news pictures are really horrible.

Are there any decent photos and records of these models?
