They brought her up in pieces and hauled her away for scrap. If I remember correctly they really didn't waste much time in doing so. That was long before I came to town anyway. The Martha's Vineyard (dieselized former steamer, near-sister to the Nobska) met a similar fate in the early 90's. I haven't been by Anthony's Pier 4 in a year or two now, but last I saw the saddle tanker was still there, minus the tank anyway.

Richard, thanks, what a shame. It's interesting that the restaurant owner would finance her undoubtedly expensive upkeep, yet not salvage her after she sank. My vague memory of it is that she sort of keeled over in about 20 feet of water. Maybe writing her off as a total loss was too attractive to pass up.

On the other side of Boston Harbor however, the SS Nobska continues to come together little by little. Her triple expansion steam engine is reportedly being rebuilt by students at a local vocational school -under the guidance of the ship's last engineer.
