Matt,
It just so happens I've been looking for this same information. In MR's "Easy to Build Model Railroad Freight Cars" magazine, there were both types of pickle cars which you describe. One was the four tub type with turnbuckles, and the other a steel frame (angle iron) with wooden tubs. This magazine has pretty good instructions but it's a 1971 publication so you are probably going to have a tough time finding one. However, O Scale Trains Magazine had a nice description in their july/aug issue #9. I've been trying to track down color schemes for my car but have been having no luck as yet. I know that Champ Decals had a number of decal sets for pickle cars but, I think there few available. If you find anything more, please, drop me a note.

I've got that book, although it's pretty badly worn. That was my introduction to tub pickle cars. I started a model a couple years ago using an Athearn 40' gon frame as a starting point, but stalled at the tubs. One of these days I'll finish the thing.

Who knows, maybe one day when I've got the rest of the SCRM collection painted, I'll take on a 12"=1' kitbashing project! :o)
