here is what I have on the CNR "VAL" series. I did get to travel in these cars both as a sleeping car and Daynighter, so there is a bit of personal history. Added info is in bold.

This car was later resold to Pittsburgh Transportation Museum Society (PTMX, commonly referred to as PTMS), and is now located in Orrville, OH, at the former Art David Rail Services/Dabo, Inc. facility now owned by Orville RHS.

Update:

56 seat chair #2936 (to 28 seat parlor under HICO ownership), later M&E #2936 (#800081) Morris County was acquired by the Catalpa Falls Group in 2020 and renamed to Chester County. The car remains in active PV service.

The Chicopee Falls, as far as I know, became the test car for NYC...PC....CR. While at Conrail, I was temporarily assigend to the test lab in Altoona. I was involved with testing locomotives and the wheel flange lubricators. As such, I spent a lot of time in that car. The emergency equipment in the hallway locker had Chicopee Falls engraved into the handles of the tools. One fellow from the lab had been with the NYC and the lab when it was in Cleveland and had been with the car all that time so I trusted that he knew what he was talking about.

After Conrail ended, I believe the car would up on NS.

Maybe someone knows the fate of the car.

It was quite an experiace to be riding in your own private car in freight service.

As per other post:

The September 2025 issue of Railpace Newsmagazine indicates that the Reading & Northern, which acquired the car from Penn Valley Railroad/North Shore in January 2025 after it had been acquired from Conrail/NS use as a dynamometer and other test car, has completely rebuilt ex-Conrail 20/NYC Chicopee Falls to a static cafe/snack bar/gift shop, parked on a siding adjacent to the depot in downtown Jim Thorpe, Pa. used by the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway and R&N excursions, opening it to said service on July 4th, 2025.

The Catalpa Falls Group has divested itself of most of it's equipment. It's ex-NYC 2936 has gone to the Heeber Creeper out in Utah. There are videos of it in service during their 2024 Christmas season. The ex-NYC baggage car has been donated to a non-profit.
