A long day of firing at a Strasburg, IRM, TVRM, Dollywood, etc. is still a long day of firing. (I picked those because I’ve seen women firing at those railroads :).


That's true. A ton of coal still weighs the same amount, regardless of who's shoveling. Or running the steam jets on the stoker.

Conditions have changed so that *certain* parts of the job are easier. Other parts are still as difficult as ever.
