On Saturday, May 13th, Ernie Gehrer will be leading a crew working at the Mt. Pleasant station starting at 11am, getting the station ready for the May 27th opening.

Also on Saturday, George Peck will be leading another crew in Phoenicia working to get the railroad line and equipment operational for the May 27th opening, probably starting around 10am or so.

Any volunteers who would like to help out are welcome to join either crew.

The CMRR at one time switched about 3-5 cars a week for a recycling center. I remember taking cars from Conrail year ago as a brakeman. I don't know exactly why the railroad was formed this way but I guess they figured there may be a time they needed to do this.

Someone would end up killing themselves on the 3-4% grades. I recall the crews doubling the two ruling grades many times. There still is a set off at the top of each of the 4 mile long grades to set off the first cut so the engines could return for the second half. Not to mention seeing places the rail head was damaged by wheel slip trying to get moving again.

Yea, there are lots of 'divits' in the rail on the grade out of the Trolley Museum.

Today the NARCOA/NERCA track car meet on the Delaware and Ulster was extended from Highmount to Pine Hill on the Catskill Mountain RR, part of the line we recently cleared. This was the first significant use of this section of the line in 30 years.
