Thanks for the toast...we smoked some victory cigars in honor of the successful move. She only has 60 inch drivers, so she'd be perfectly happy at 25 or whatever they run on the SAM. :-)

Well, beats tracking down anything that once ran on the ACL.

The poor old 400 in Marshall. I'll put a brief together with some photos soon. Today we dodge telephone wires going from the park to the depot museum. Best rigging crew I ever had the priviledge of working with.

30 mph max. on the SAM Shortline. Sure would be sweet to have steam down here, at least for some of the trips.

We have dropped Monday runs and now run Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

We have a special coming up for Memorial Day weekend (May 24-26) to Savannah, leaving Saturday morning and returning Monday afternoon. The train will run over the Heart of Georgia route from Cordele to Vidalia where we get on the Georgia Central and run into Savannah. The train will tie up in the old Savannah Yard (CSX) for the weekend while the passengers enjoy a wide variety of activities Saturday evening and Sunday. You can find the trip details at the SAM web site. Some good rare mileage over this old SAL line (ex-Savannah, Americus & Montgomery RY from which "SAM Shortline" originated.)

The Southeastern Railway Museum has completed the move of Stone Mountain Railroad 4-4-0 #104, the "General II." on 4/29/08. The locomotive was built by Baldwin (b/n: 52207) in 1919 for the Red River and Gulf Railroad at Long Leaf, LA. She was sold in 1950 to Paulson Spence's Gulf Sand and Gravel Co. at Amite, LA, where she became Comite Southern (later Louisiana Eastern) #1. The Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad acquired the locomotive in 1961 and backdated her appearance to resemble that of the "General" of Civil War fame. She last operated under steam in 1986.

The Museum would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Stone Mountain Memorial Association for this excellent gift.

Glad to see that G&W are still letting you run the Savannah trip!

Cosmetic restoration is well underway and the locomotive is now on display for a while at the museum.
The lettering is yet to be completed but the locomotive looks beautiful.

Thank heavens! I would love to eventually see her once again in her Louisianna Eastern appearance.

The organization I am with has contacted Stone Mountain regarding acqiring the former SA&AP #60 and bring her back to San Antonio. We have even set up a webpage for the locomotive, www.saap60.org. We really would like to get the former SA&AP #60 and restore it to operation. It would look good sitting next to the SP 794 in downtown San Antonio.

Would be nice if SA&AP #60 went to someone who would take care of her. A restoration to operation would be a nice bonus. Didn't Stone Mountain have another steam locomotive besides the two 4-4-0's? I'm thinking maybe 2-6-2. If true, anyone know where she went?

Yea, the former Cliffside Railroad 2-6-2 #110. Operated for a brief time at the Swampp Rabbit Railroad in South Carolina. The last time I was there, she was on display right at the depot. Presuming she is still there.
