TVRM/NS Steam

OK...here is what I think I have learned: There will be updates to the TVRAIL website (later this year). NS will maybe launch a web-cam...where we can learn things and...if you want to make a difference give them a check for a lot of money.

I've had an idea for awhile that could be used here or any restoration project. Since every project should have a checklist of items that need to be done maybe it would be a fun idea to post that checklist on the internet. This way the public can see all the work that will have to go into the project. Maybe when the public sees how much work is needed they may donate or come to do the work. Also, when people ask, "When is it going to be done?" you can direct them to the checklist on the website and say something like, "We've got 40 of 100 items checked off." Maybe once a week the check list can be updated so interested parties can follow along with the project.

Like I said, just an idea.

Mark, I think you better spelled out the point I was trying to make - with little exception, all of the rabble in the thread about work to be done and what TVRM or NS "will" or "should" be doing has not been from anyone with accurate information that would be forthcoming from those involved.

They do, a quarterly newsletter "Smoke and Cinders". TVRM, or any organization, have the right to give updates as often as they want and as thorough as they wish to give, through many different mediums. Some give them for every bolt they install, some, not as much. At TVRM, the shop's viewing area is open to the public and part of the tour, you can see what's going on anytime you visit, is that not enough update?

There's more than 2 or 3 people who help out with operations, the majority volunteer. The NS excursions likely wouldn't require more than the Autumn Season, with crews on 3 different trains.

I've visited TVRM many many times, and for a year and a half volunteered nearly all my free time there, they've NEVER hidden the fact that you can volunteer. Not only is it mentioned on every trip, but there's a whole brochure that comes with your initial membership registration on volunteering. Nothing's hidden, mentions volunteering for train service or shop work, whichever is your pleasing. You sure make it seem like you're not a member, as you would know this if you were.

Does this sum up your questions?

Well, you're missing out on Lady Gaga... As long as your vote is right, the rest doesn't matter too much. It is funny that Bill has a sort of crush on Lady Gaga - too bad she wasted her time on Larry Kingfish...

Noeffense to anyone, but I think we've gotten a bit off topic here. XD

I would really like to see CN 4-6-2 #5288 restored and used on the mainline from time to time on NS. I think she'd make a really nice excursion engine, especially painted up in Green and Gold like the Southern's passenger engines. But if it doesn't happen, oh well. Hurrah for NS and the TVRM.

I am not asking when 610 will be done/started, let me make that be clear. I am just curious, When the steam program was first announced in 2010, it was to use only TVRM's steam locomotives. They said that NS would pay for 630 and 4501's rebuilds and the 1,472 on 610. With 4501 and 630 back, the use of 765 and 611's return. Will there be any use for NS to use 610?

We were at TVRM two weeks ago and 610 was sitting under the outside shed. There were no plans to do anything at this time. 4501 was under steam and the running gear is being tested. Everyone felt confident that it would perform well. 630 was under steam also and being loaded with coal for a trip on Saturday. I have photos, but need to get them printed.
