Out of curiosity, why don't you set safety valves on the bench?

Wow so that failure was a result of excessive boiler pressure? Are you aware of which portion of the boiler failed first (i.e. did part of the firebox collapse or did part of the boiler rupture). Thanks.

To get back to the topic of B-17's,, by strange coincidence, there is a B-17E under restoration just 40 miles from the hard landing site of the Liberty Belle.

Definitely a first-rate landing and one can see that things were going to happen pretty fast after that and not much chance to save it.
