I'll be heading to Cass tomorrow to work with Grady and the gang so I should be able to get some firsthand info. Mark is correct that the boiler is pretty much finished and waiting in the Cass shop for the day it can be set on the Climax chassis. The water tank, coal bunker and cab if not already painted and back at Cass should be there very soon. Right now work is being done on the cylinders, heads, and pistons. The smokebox saddle has had major repairs and has been reunited with the chassis. Grady and a few volunteers have been working hard on fabrication of brand new exhaust nozzle piping. I have been told we will begin machine work on pistons tomorrow.
This is a project that has been underway for well over 10 years now and Grady Smith has been the dedicated leader of this volunteer project from the start. To say this is a quality restoration is an understatement. The quality of work being done by Grady and some dedicated volunteers who have donated countless hours to this project will no doubt produce a restored locomotive that will be better than new.
Perhaps I can take some pics tomorrow to post.

Mike, how is the 7 1/2 x 9 Frick these days? I kind of miss it.

Grady, Walter et al,

Thank you so very much for the time and effort put into this project. I'm honored to have been able to been a small part of the project and am sorry I haven't been of more than financial assistance since my research and grease-scraping days. The patience shown by the restoration crew toward volunteers of various skill levels, the lessons learned and friendships formed are invaluable. Beautiful work, safely and accurately done. I can't wait to get a lungful of soot from her stack!

Photo of the rear truck from the Carroll Park and Western Climax taken in 1963. Looks like the bolts on the right side are installed so the nuts can be threaded on from the top.
