Forgot. I know, I know, cover of last month's Trains and all, just one not on my Midwestern radar.

Following 611 on facebook. Test firing is right around the corner, and today the update featured a pic of her cab signaling equip relays. So for those wondering she'll have cab signals. Close, really close to being the first back in steam.

Dug this thread back up. The origianl question was which 844, 4449, or 611 would be first. Well the order ended up 611, 4449, and ? Now will 2926 get up and running before 844? Not sure. Re$sources wise 844 has the edge but heart wise gotta go with 2926. Pulling hard for NMSLHS!
please stay out of the mgt of UP stuff - thanks

Looking back over past 1522 trips and the logistics, cost and legal BS.
All I can say is good luck.

Great Point. It is very easy to think the big hurdle is getting the locomotive operational. Big as that is, the requisite work to line up all the switches to get said restored steamer, and its train full of people from A to B and back again is huge. Just consider the unfortunate air conditioning snafu on the 611 Manassas to front Royal trip. You want to run one of these things, you better have an organization, "rule book" and checklists that would make a RR blush.

I would not at all be concerned about a 2926 operating plan. They have many miles (100+, ?) of ATSF mainline now owned by the state of NM north of Albuquerque to run on and have been out scouting the logistics of it already. Also, fairly safe to say that 2926 will be in steam before 844 but would also love to be proved wrong by ED.
