Has one ever been in the east before? Or anyplace of interest offline other than the initially delivery?

Jim Boyd spoke of run UP run-through power on C&NW where due to some bridge limitations the UP was not supposed to send 6-axle power but no one thought to say anything about 8-axle units and one time UP sent one. But I think it was a DD35A.

When UP #6944 arrived at MOT it had the two line herald, not the three line one. I worked there for 10 years. It also had air horns that were later stolen and are still not on the loco.

I think I am going to get a T-Shirt made that says "Give me your Wallet" to wear at the RR Museum.

Then the next time some "Daisy Picker" complains about how something was done, or why something has not been done, I will just point to my T-shirt.

Yes, because heaven forbid we should discuss historical accuracy for a museum piece, in a forum dedicated to preservation. Pretty and free of cost should be the bar that we strive to achieve. Authenticity doesn't matter, as long as it is free.

And, before the foamers here get all upset about someone daring to question something that "looks nice," nobody is slamming MOT or NS's Juniata shop. IF ... and let me repeat that ... IF ... the paint job isn't accurate for what 6944 wore during its service on UP, I'm more interested in HOW it happened. Did someone at MOT provide bad paint specs? Was it a miscommunication, where they simply said "paint it as it was delivered," and someone at NS didn't do their homework? Did one or more parties know, and just decide to paint it that way anyway, because none are preserved like that? Knowing where something went wrong (IF it went wrong) could help another group avoid the same mistake, in the future.

Very good chance they weren't the original horns. Horns are one of those items that tend to get swapped about between locomotives frequently.

You are correct, good point. There is a difference between informed questions and foamer babble.

I recall a photo of either a DD35 or DD40 under wire on the PRR or PC. I can't seem to find it however.

Oh well. It certainly identifies the NS paint job and become a part of the history of this unit. The paint job itself is a bit of an historic event.

Maybe I missed it, but why couldn't UP have done this work? Do they no longer paint their own locomotives or was it due to the lead paint?

You did miss it but no big deal. Go back to the 1st page. NS did it as a trade off for St. Louis loaning the Y6 to Roanoke. I do that a lot too.
