FYI: Alco C-420's to be scrapped

Doug,
when you say "Monon/ LV loco" I assume you are referring to the LV Alco C628's, some of which were purchased new by the Monon, who returned them to Alco, who then re-sold them to the LV..However none of those C628's survive today.

This thread is referring to LV Alco C420's, which were purchased new by the LV, and have nothing to do with Monon. They were owned by the LV, then the D&H, before going to the A&M.

You are reading way too much into my post. I know PRR steam and electrics, D&RGW narrow gauge and some of Southern Railway's diesels during my high school years (about 1968-1973).

The point was NOT about any specific locomotive but about a car body without some of its internal parts being still being useful as a static display.

Sorry I did not get the point across to you clearly.

Bought for the line extension that didn't pan out to Joplin and Carthage. So they didn't need them then and they became more valuable as parts sources for their in-service fleet.

As an FYI, the entire fleet of Family Lines 4 motor 251 powered Alcos was sold to Chrome (Silvis) in the early 1980's. I'm fairly sure that more than one ex-MONON C-420 was resold by Chrome.

I wonder if any of the 500 series U-23B's survived long enough to be resold.
