Might this suppose to be CAPE TOURMENTE?

This is just a bit confusing. So I guess the paint job on 1/31/55 into "Milw Rd Yellow" was actually just a repaint back into the original colors that the car came in when delivered to the Milwaukee Road in 1948.

Actually it may have been painted in one of the subsequent paint schemes such as the one where the carbody was orange while just the letterboard was maroon.

I think Jerry has it right. The simplified (i.e., cheaper) Milwaukee Road scheme was applied in January 1955 (BEFORE the shift of the UP trains from the C&NW to the MILW) and the UP scheme was eventually applied in 1957. The Hiawatha emblem in your collection was probably removed during the 1955 repainting, if I had to guess.

Next time I go to the Newberry Library I can pull the Car Construction and Repair record for Lake Keechelus and see what it has to say about shopping and repainting dates and schemes. There should also be General Orders in the Pullman G.O. books at Newberry regarding changes to Milwaukee Road painting diagrams post-1948.

In any case, Les has a nice (and certifiably original) artifact that looks to be in excellent used condition.

Peter -

Thanks, but remember that this artifact has now been put on display at Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson, Indiana. Still have to locate a photo of the car with that Hiawatha artifact in place.

The spelling is correct "CAP TOURMENTE", a loaction in Quebec, near Quebec City. "CAP" is the French spelling of "CAPE".

To add to or explain the name confusion:
CN had a sleeper-lounge car (2 DBR-2Comp-lounge) that was named "Cape Tormentine."

All of this class of cars were named "Cape ______" regardless of name origin. This from the CN diagram.

Little bit of an update from the photo on page 1 of this thread. Bob Albert of HVRM, has now added the display information for the Hiawatha emblem. Still have hope of finding a photo of the "Lake Keechelus" in her Milwaukee Road paint scheme which shows the emblem on the side of the car, which we will then add to the display.
