The term 'high hood Alco' may be a bit confusing here. It usually refers to one of the pre S-1 or S-2 switchers, 531 or 538 powered, and not a Century or RS-11 et al with a high short hood.

Ah, My mistake. The Diesel Shop lists 3 HH660s as still running outside of museums as of 03/06/15.

RELCO: 601 and 607
SMS 603

Possibly RELCO 604 as well, though it may have been scrapped, last info I can find on it is from 2008.

Union Pacific is probably still using this caboose in work train service:

Built by the Lehigh Valley in Sayre PA in 1946.
70 years old, and still in use by a Class-1 Railroad..

Not class 1, but at one time Sperry Rail Service had some ancient equipment. Are these still around?

The crane at Spruce Pine is on the property of the Mitchel Lbr. Co. Bud Phillips, owner of the lumber company, bought the crane in 1993. Bud died a year or so ago so the crane's future is uncertain. It last worked for CSX out of Waycross, GA.

I believe I heard that the NCTM acquired this crane recently. Might not be this one, but they did get a donation of a large CSX crane.
