I hope Strasburg has smarter people than you working in marketing. webcams bring people back to websites on a regular basis... Which gives the opportunity to advertise new events etc. Huge value.

From what I see, Strasburg has some of the best marketing; and it's far more than that targeted to a small niche audience. The Friday before Easter, on a cold and wet day, every 12 car train I saw was at least 95% full... almost no empty seats.

And the execution? We watched as family after family, coming in from the parking lot, stopped to take photos of their kids beside a 3-foot high plywood painted Easter Egg. A quick photo, taken before the kids are tired and grumpy, smiles on faces, posted on Social Media even before they board the train, all tagged as being at Strasburg. What a win for $10 worth of wood and paint.

Here is another Easter Egg, along with one of their very interesting water fountains.

And you're way smarter than me as a machinist I am sure of that. (of course that doesn't take much.. :)

My problem with the answer "if you're willing to pay for it" is it's rarely that simple. I've donated to funds for a specific locomotive... And seen that money be spent on other "emergency need" projects. So I'm a bit extra sensitive in that area.

Think before you post, please.

Thank you Kelly for fantastic insights on the Strasburg Rail Road (always two words!). Just amazing to see how SRR has matured in its third generation.

About the shopcam: possibly that raises liability questions. Even the best have mistakes, and it probably would be best not to have them live streamed. I am OK with you editing what we see!

I for one wouldn't want to be on camera when I am working in the shop - just getting the job done is enough without acting for the foamers watching and offering dubious advice.

Aw, comon now, Dave. All the shop guys and gals should be required to wear vests with their cel phone numbers embroidered on their backs, so the folks watching at home can call up and tell them what they are doing wrong...

The fact that the Strasburg shops have repair/rebuild contracts that prohibit disclosure is enough to put the kibosh on webcams.

Just be glad he even posts pics of stuff he admits he can't discuss. That alone would violate the contracts in many cases. (Though, who knows what they're working on that Brother Anderson doesn't even show here.... hey, is that a K4s boiler back there? Or a UP Challenger front engine set???)

That did not occur to me, and you are absolutely right, so I withdraw my request for a web cam......just PLEASE keep these reports coming, I enjoy them very much.

Where I work, there are cameras where we take our lunch break. They can see when we get there and when we go back to work, if they choose to check the feed. There are a LOT of cameras on campus.......
