Having seen the 1000 up close, as well as 490, 1000 when I last saw it isn’t really in terrible shape cosmetically. Probably just a simple refresh of paint, probably hasn’t gotten a coat in a couple of decades with them working on the locomotives involved in the roof collapse all those years.

As for 490, it needs quite a bit of cosmetic work. I’ve seen worse personally but it desperately needs a refresh.
