I feel obligated to say it: the past was the worst.

Sure, the film may make it look rosy, that was its entire point, but don't be fooled: life in the past was decidedly not "better". It was shorter, harder, and far less comfortable than it is today.

It's only through the miracle of selective memory that it may seem like it was better.
