Those shows about the railroad shops should attract a large and interested audience. The younger fans now tend to have a very strong interest in technical information. You can see that in the audiences that show up at local groups in my area, when a program is being presented that explains how things work it seems that more of the younger enthusiasts attend.

By the way, if you are looking for a place to hold your event, you might want to go to an area where people have some money to spend!

Having a thick skin does not fix the problem only exaggerates it. In this particular case, the problems were of the type of people leaving a locomotive hot on a track with no one in attendace of the locomotive. The throttle was not locked and other rule book violations happened that the executive director chose not to enforce for reasons of self convience. Unfortunately this is one of many examples on this property. In addition, the owners of the property did not have the ability to do effective oversight of their property and the damage to a volunteer pool because of unchecked paid (professional?)egos.

I have worked hard on several projects including the early stages of the work on EP&SW #1 making sure that people delt with the preservation issues that people such as John White and others brought up. The museum director for the Third Armored Calvary Museum and others helped in the early days. By being professional ideas were discussed and evolved which drove the project to a highter level of quality. I have watch at too many organizations that call themselves preservation movements that seem to have more status as a Social Club than a preservation organization. These organizations are often limited by their siritual leader. If that siritual leader can not evolve neither will the group. If the leader is able to develop then maybe the organization will. Until true leadership skills are learned in many organization we will continuue to contract as a movement instead of expand.
