I'm sure someone wants these. Something you don't see everyday.

Jack,

The frames look like Peckham trucks. We have the set from DCTS 0509 at National Capital trolley Museum.

For those who haven't yet run into this information:

I have been informed by one of the auction bidders that provisions have been set up in the Cleveland area specifically to facilitate the rescue of ALL equipment from the warehouse. A storage site has been arranged whereas a successful bidder can "buy time" by having their acquisitions staged so that they can comply with the onerous, exacting removal conditions and dates while still not making the three experienced traction road haulers work ridiculous amounts of overtime. In other words, if they haven't passed the hat enough to pay for the moving costs by the deadline, they can get it out and get a month or more to get the affairs in order.

No scrappers need show their faces, in other words.

I did hear a Rumor via hearsay that some of the inspectors at the viewing at the end of Aug. were sad that their offers to "give it a good home for free" were not well received.

I see that IRM has started a public fund drive to acquire " up to eight" of the cars. Executive Director Nick Kallas announced the drive via a blog on the IRM web site here

News on the SLIHS website indicates that Fox River as well as IRM have intentions to bid. Midwest Threshers stated they are out. Rumored is Western Railway Museum in California, and Northern Ohio Railway Museum.

Wondering what car(s) they're specifically targeting.

The OX line car seems to be a perfect match for this group, a car with the appropriate ties to the area, and a much needed piece of operational MOW equipment to further their operational goals.

In regards to all these fund raising efforts, what happens to the money if the museum loses the bid? Does it get returned to the donor?

Is that a signal mast laying atop those trucks? Does Lake Shore Electric Railway have proof that they own it? Should we notify CSX police? :)

I've heard from fellow members at the PA Trolley Museum that we were looking at acquiring a Cincinnati car. Anyone know what I'm referring to?

They might be referring to this car, Cincinnati Street Railway No. 2227. Exterior seems to be in great shape. I have no idea of the condition of the interior or the electrical and mechanical components.

Thanks!

Preserved North American Electric Railway Cars shows it "stored operable", and it does appear to have the underfloor apparatus in place. There were photos of it apparently in service at Trolleyville included in the PNAERC entry; it still had the dual trolley poles from its days in Cincinnati. The entry did not list trucks (which looked unusual), motors or controllers (which were probably special designs for the two-wire operation unique to Cincinnati in modern times). Perhaps someone closer to the scene can advise on how the car was modified to run on the Brookins railway.

Bidding is closed.

Sealed bids to be opened tomorrow morning. Perhaps an announcement by tomorrow afternoon?

A consortium of 14 museums placed a joint bid as well as individual bids.

North Texas Historic Transportation in Fort Worth bid on some of the Fox River equipment that was similar to the stuff used on the last new equipment ordered by NTT in 1927. The Fox River cars were built in the same time and place as the Fort Worth cars and seem to be dimensionally similar according to PNAERC, but I imagine the suburban Fox River cars were geared for a little higher top end speed than the Fort Worth cars which were strictly intraurban.

Up until now it appears that the only people talking about the auction didn't know anything and the ones who knew anything haven't been talking. It will be interesting to see what ends up where.

Thanks Andy. A couple of questions if I may.

First, if XYZ Museum bid on a total of say, 5 cars, A, B, C, D and E, and museum ZYX bid only on car C, how would this "package" be sorted out to determine who was the winner of car C? Maybe package bids were prohibited and a museum had to offer so much for each car.

And second, what happens to any particular piece of equipment that received NO bids?

Les
