I thought there was a hopper load of state grant money flowing into this. So how did the contractor not get paid? Is there something fishy going on with the tax dollars?

I doubt there is much fishy going on. Just a lot of procedural stuff that takes too long because there are too many hoops to jump through.

I don't recall saying they didn't get paid at all, just that the payments were consistently made late. Several months late. Meanwhile, the contractor has to "carry" the financial load.

In an effort to prevent any further Derailment and in an effort to keep RYPN a quality place for information, unlike that other page (TO).....I shall make a few comments.

Wasatch does not finance customers projects. We complete projects on time and on budget and we believe that a contract is a reciprocating agreement between two parties. When hired for any project, we believe that we have an obligation to perform and we also believe that our customers have the same obligation to perform. Indeed, when we feel that a contract has been breached, for any reason, we stop work until such matters are resolved. My comments are not a reflection of the K&T 14 project, they are in response to the assumptions that have been made on RYPN. Our customers have the same option if they feel we have breached a contract for any reason.

It is also true that financially, we do not carry the cost of projects for customers. Believe it or not, in today's world, the Feds and even most States will pay invoices in less than 10 days, by electronic funds transfer. If "terms and conditions" require that Wasatch carry a project (financially) we build a heavy (15%+ every thirty day) interest fee in with it. Wasatch is not the bank! Wasatch does not do projects for fun, we are in business to make money (a profit) and to grow, which we do year after year.

Since I have all of you, Wasatch is growing at an incredible rate. Our 20 year projection has us being a $30MM to $60MM a year company by the end of 2034. At our current growth rate, we will far surpass that projection. We are looking for new talent and any of you who want to send in a resume are more than welcome. We are growing far beyond simple restorations and tourist/museum type work. We are now doing work in the Class I field in respect to tank cars and freight car repair work.

Enough said: The K&T project is back on track. The boiler has water in it and we are making final plans to hydro the boiler and install it. All of the exterior items have been painted and inventoried and once the boiler has a Hydro (November 2014) it will be installed and finished. The final assembly process should go quickly and honestly, we are requiring that volunteers finish the project and final assembly. If you live in the area and want to consider volunteering with/for us, we would love to have you!

Please send an email to:

info@wrrc.us

Bill Johnson will also be posting updates about volunteer work sessions in the near future. I believe the next session to be late October, first of November.

John, good to hear things are back on track, and that she will be "buttoned up" soon. Any pictures to share of the boiler work? Couldn't find any on your Wasatch web page.

We produced two videos in response to questions from RYPN concerning rivets and boiler riveting. The videos can be seen here as Episode 17 and Episode 18

17 is seen here:

18 can be ween here:

I do not have any current photos. I will do my best to grab a few next time I am on location.

Enjoy,
