Dave is correct with regard to the "rivets" on the side of this car. They are round-head slotted screws filled in with a filler or putty. I noticed this one day after looking closely at the car side one day. I wasn't brave enough to try to venture inside though.

I think we are seeing a pattern here. Another example: The John Ringling's Wisconsin was built in 1905 by Pullman with no showers but it did have a tub in the bathroom next to the main stateroom. At some point the bathroom was split into two rooms with one of them getting a shower, the tub was excluded. The car also got a steel underframe at some point. I will have to check and see the progression in which these things occured. The Wisconsin never had a shower OR bath for the crew.

Interesting. I noticed the Ferdinand Magellan, which I toured recently, still had a tub in it. I didn't have the mind to check for a crew shower. Of course, it was a custom floor plan.

I wish I had also checked Clover Colony at MOT before it left.

Interesting...

Mr. Wilkins....

It appears you might have enjoyed too much Stag ( jokingly so ) , as the Clover Colony ( 8 sections and 5 double bedrooms ) is at TVRM....Nonetheless it would appear that there is no consistancy, on either how steel cars, or wood cars were delivered... Some with showers, some with tubs, some with nothing at all.... Not one specific builder did things one way most of the time.... Even the moderizations were inconsistant by different roads... as not all cars came out with nearly identical equipment....Here is an example for those who find things interesting... Going back to the murder mystery ( where we started down this long crooked road ) In this case, we can talk about hardware.... when the IC outshopped # 2, the two large bedrooms retained their dressers, however note the two pictuers provided, that illustrate one bedroom lost its traditional pulls in exchange for chrome recessed pulls... while the other retained its traditional original hardware.... Why is it interesting ?.... Because inconsistancy is likely more common then standardization.... No matter if its how wood sash was replaced, or the style of decorative steel design used on the IC platform railings, very little is totally consistant... ( no matter if you go way back to the turn of the century or stay in 1950 )....

So... perhaps its time for a vestibule shower and a Stag ?

You know I think the King Cotton has a mixture of pulls as well. Hmm...let us think about this for a moment. Could those modern pulls have been in a wardrobe that was not original to the car? See the upper two drawers...split into two? That is an unusual application...and that dresser also does not have a pull out dressing table like the wardrobe with the traditional pulls. So maybe that modern dresser was scratch-built at the IC car shop and the designer specified the more modern pull. This line of thinking would follow my train of thought that these cars actually maintained a lot of the original wood-work in areas with only the public areas being drastically altered. Your thoughts?

How many Stags tonight?

Termite....

Your logical thought of the dresser being an add on, which caused the hardware and perhaps style to be slightly different makes sense, with the only exception being hardware that was used in the secretary's room on IC 2.... Here you have the much more modern recess pulls ( which I have never seen used on a car ) in a chrome finish, right next to cabinets that had traditional Pullman hardware ( in brass finish ) ... So after seeing that, it doesn't per say lend a definite thought of the dresser with the more modern hardware being added.....?

However, in regards to things that definitely came a bit later, in the secretary's room, note ( in picture 3 ) the fold down table that was attached to the pull down bed.... I suspect this provided a bit more writing space or work space, as the desk with the typewriter recess, did not provide very much space.... The desk ( with a modern light fixture ) had no real writing space, when a typewriter was placed in the recess....

In regards to Stag, went with two bottles....Temite perhaps I can extend an offer to you for a twelve pack ? ....After all, nothing says the holidays like a case of Stag ?

I had the same observations about mixed pulls on the King Cotton...mixed in the secretaties room. Can we see a pattern where some of the cabinets were original and some were added by IC? The thought did not come to me at the time but looking back...I now wonder.

Stag? Did you say Stag? I will jump on a side door Pullman car...so make me a pallet on da' floor.

Some time ago, we discussed showers in vestibules of business cars... and Soo Line 54 was mentioned...

Here are a few photographs of the vestibule shower in Soo Line 54 ( photo taken two weeks ago )..at OERM. Note the shower controls on the wall, and the shower head in the ceiling.

Thought some members would find it interesting...

On a side note ( and how this topics started ) IC 2, which has been for sale, has been reduced from 40,000.00 to 6,000.00... ( although I am not connected or involved with this sale )

Thanks

Dean - I heard from a friend that the trucks from IC #2 have been sold separately, which may explain the lower price of the old business car. I don't know for sure if that is correct, but I think a car without trucks is going to be a still harder sell. You had photos of these trucks back on page 1 of this thread.

Les..

Word is the trucks were scrapped. As you stated, that certainly will make it a bit more difficult to sell / unload this old IC car...

They scrapped the trucks? How could they possibly expect to sell the car for any decent amount without the trucks. Are you certain? The trucks were sitting on the ground near the car.

The listing also says some interior fixtures have been removed. Might not have been voluntary...

I just had a look and without going on the property I can definitely say I do not see any trucks anymore. If they went to make another car roadworthy so be it but if they really did sell them for scrap value that is really sad.

When they jacked up the car further than it already was a couple of years ago they removed the Wakesha Ice Engine and it was sitting directly to the south of the car. It is no longer visible either. Who would buy one? Was that just more metal for the scrap man to take?

Listed for sale by Ozark Mountain Railcar... Look for their website, search passenger cars and you will see it...
