I am pleased to announce the cosmetic restoration of former LIRR RS-3 1556 has almost come to a close. This weekend the second and final coat of grey was applied to the locomotive. This includes all decks, doors and compartments on the engine. The first coat of orange paint on all pilots, noses and handrails have also been applied. Next Saturday, weather permitting the final coats of orange and touch ups will be applied to the engine. Next Saturday is also the museum’s annual educational forum so work on 1556 will slow down as it comes to a close as we go and “get educated”. Handrails will also be reattached with broken windows replaced. 399 is next in line for completion as paint is found for Baggage Car 7723. This is the first time that 1556 has been painted coupler to coupler while at the museum.

So far I am right on schedule for everything to be completed for our April 14th Opening :-) 399 will be finished hopefully before the end of March.
