This is starting to sound pretty convincing. It will be interesting to see how they handle the situation with treasure hunters converging on the area, the overall competition to get there first, and the prospect of booby traps. I would think that the government would just have to swoop in and secure the entire area. Then, considering the booby trap issue, it might be a long slow process of opening the treasure trove. I would not be surprised if that entering process could take months.

It sounds like the Polish and local governments are taking it pretty seriously. The GPR image apparently confirms a likely target... I sure wish they'd release some of those images!

Getting the place secured and ensuring it is safe for civilians to enter will be a big job for the military. Hopefully those guys will stay safe, and will find the tunnel to be a stable, dry environment unlike one shown in the press being explored by boat.

It would be great if the train, whatever it may be, is still in reasonable condition for preservation.

No matter what the outcome- an empty train, or chock full of loot, it's pretty interesting to follow.

I don't see what the big deal is. The train, if it is really there, is buried deep... deep enough that the NKVD couldn't find it, and they had free reign over the area. That means there is no easy access, and some tunneling will be required. I don't think you start to dig a mine tunnel in Poland without a building permit.

Security shouldn't be a problem at all, especially in Poland, with their state-runs-everything past.

This is like an Indiana Jones archeology quest. Quite exciting.

What articles are you reading? I'm not seeing anything other than the repeat of what was said before; a deathbed confession and ground penetrating radar targets (which, if you're familiar with that, you'll know that at best you get a 'hit' of some type of mass being there, which could be a very long rock for all we know).
Nothing new.

I read the link above posted by superheater. It says Polish government confirms the discovery of the train. It talks about the image from ground penetrating radar being recognizable as the armored train. GP radar has the ability to image in enough detail to identify a known object, depending on soil conditions. Of course we won't know until they get in there, but it sounds like it has a strong potential. The existence of all the other vast underground infrastructure surely lends credence to a hidden train being a part of it.

Despite all the urban legends, people do find things. I read the personal story about the people who discovered that Saddle Ridge coin stash in California. Aside from the immense value, the discovery was very strange. Some of the cans of coins were exposed from erosion and tree lift. The people who lived there had walked past them many times and seen them prior to checking them out.

It had to happen...........

I have no idea how they are approaching this, but I lose confidence if a large bureaucracy gets involved and starts their own independent search. The easiest thing for them to do is to declare that nothing is there. I bet there is a 98% chance that will be the conclusion, and then the legend returns to its long established position of an unsolved mystery.

Why not go in and pick up right where the treasure hunters left off after finding a convincing GP radar image of an armored train? Treasure can be all over the place and yet there is no end of people who won’t be able to find it.

I swear, each new story, to me, seems to better support that nobody knows where this thing is actually supposed to be or if it's even there.
Otherwise, you'd have people hosting a press conference in front of a sealed tunnel portal, and saying, "It's right in there. Someone hand my the jackhammer, would you?"

From what has been reported about finding it, and having a GP radar image, it seems like there is too much information that should be known, but is not known. Or at least it has not been reported. There is a disconnect there.

For one thing, there should be some sort of theory about how the train is situated in the ground, and how it got there. Is there a hidden portal or entrance? If you know where the train is, it ought to be fairly easy to find the entrance. Ground penetrating radar could probably follow the tunnel right to the entrance.

The people who found the train by GP radar should have quite a detailed story to tell. Where are they?

If they had a trainload of treasure, what was the plan? Surely the plan was not to bury the whole thing and forget about it.
