It is remarkably difficult to determine where the Texas Railroading Heritage Museum is located, it is not mentioned on their facebook page and their website is down for maintenance. This isn't the museum located near the Gulf of Mexico that keeps getting inundated by saltwater storm surges, is it?

You may be thinking of the museum in Galveston, which has had it's share of storm problems and damage in the past.

I believe that is what I was thinking of when I saw "Gulf Coast", they have an AC&Y FM unit that was flooded if I remember. So where is this museum located? I found some articles saying that they were planning to move to Tomball and then changed their mind, but I haven't found where they are located now. I'm not criticizing them, it is a big state and I am trying to imagine where this is.

I decided to do what I do best, screw around on the computer, and came up with this.

The Galveston Railroad Museum on Galveston Island is part of the Moody foundation, in it's early days it was called the Center for Transportation and Commerce. (I know it is OT, but I'd love to know why it changed names.) The AC&Y Mairbanks Force H20-44 is indeed part of the GRRM/CT&C and can be yours for the humble price of $17,500! Shipping NOT included...

Now back to the more relevant stuff.

It appears the Houston Railroad Museum was part of the Gulf Coast Chaper of the NRHS. See their website here:https://www.kingswayrc.com/gcst/

Doing some digging it appears there is a Houston Railroad Museum and a Gulf Coast Railroad Museum. Are/were they part of the same entity?

Corrections are most welcome! Hopefully this helps some.
Take care, be safe, and be well.

There is currently no physical museum site, and the equipment from the former Houston Railroad Museum is being stored next to a warehouse in the Second Ward area of Houston until the Texas Railroading Heritage Museum opens. They were planning on relocating to Tomball but this plan was terminated by the city council, and appear now to be considering Tony Marron Park in Houston as a new home. Tony Marron Park is not far from where the equipment is currently stored and has an inactive rail spur running directly next to the park.

The Houston Railroad Museum was forced to relocate from its Mesa Drive site in 2013 due to the landowner wanting to expand his business. Sadly, judging by 2019 Google Streetview imagery this expansion never happened.

I shared the post because I saw the NRHS reposting it, and I knew there was an old post on here about the locomotive. After I put up the post and I slept on I did some digging, and the lack of information that I can find on the "museum" just gives me an iffy feeling about the whole endeavor.
Just saw this comment on their FB page and it doesnt make me feel any better.

We're having discussions about a location in Tony Marron Park. Our biggest problem is that we're rapidly running out of money. We'll need a large cash infusion to get things up and running once we have a site for the museum. Keep an eye on www.texasrrmuseum.org. We'll bring the website back up once we have a site confirmed. People will be able to donate there.
