NRHS dues due - worth renewing?

Of the 24 campers who attended the 2006 NRHS Scranton Railcamp. I am aware of the following campers who currently work/volunteer/study railroading.

Janice Bauer - Bucksgahuda & Western
Joe Fox - Conway Scenic
Andrew Giardina - Penn State Altoona - Railroad Transportation Engineering
Brent Jacob - Reading & Northern
Nate Johnston - Whitewater Valley
Dan Morgan - Morristown & Erie
Eric Steinberg - Valley Railroad
Shawna Sturdevant - Steamtown

This is an 8 out of 24 return 5-1/2 years after attending the camp. This makes me proud to be a part of Railcamp.

I made the comment about exclusive outings for the Directors. Since I belonged to the NRHS (New Hope - Delaware Valley Chapter) between about 1974 and 1990, my impression is based on old information from the late 1980s. I remember 2 photos published in the National magazine, of the Board on the transfer table at Amtrak's Wilmington, Del. Electric Shops, and on the catwalk of a Class 1 Diesel locomotive, probably at a shop out West. Again, these memories are more than 20 years old. Possibly, they were last moment outings. Did someone say at the Board meeting, "Hey, lets drop by the shops and see if my buddy will let us in"? I just thought it was in bad taste to publicly brag about exclusive perks. I don't recall any non-chapter trips other than the National Convention being offered to all of the membership.

Two examples:

Last spring the BOD meeting/spring conference included a short trip behind a steam engine at the Monticello RR museum. A number of non BOD/ staff members were on the train and the museum ran the engine several times that weekend for the public.

A few years ago, the Harrisburg ran an excursion for BOD members and the public and the Sat trip sold so well that they ran another on on Sunday.

Note that these events were operated by the chapters hosting the meetings and not the National itself.
