There should be an interchange run Friday. The CRHS's caboose is inbound to the RR Museum of PA for Conrail days.

This will be its last appearance in faded, old paint. After Strasburg, it's headed to Central Penn Railcar for paint and body work.

Yeah. I didn't expect it to get out Wednesday. (Apparently SRC didn't either.) Just glad it made it in one piece. Hopefully they (not strasburg) didn't flat-spot the wheels like last time. Here's a shot of the move.

Thanks Strasburg!

No mixed tomorrow due to dwell times in Enola. Also, no steam mixed the 19th and 21st.

Does anyone have any recommendations for nearby hotel accommodations that are amicable to the "I might have to cancel the day before" nature of these?

I'm planning a trip out that way with my father at some point in the next few months, and need to line up some lodging.

I hope it was an invitation to stay in a spare room at your place, otherwise, why not simply post? Always find it a little odd when typically good info is sent in private on a forum such as this.

I live a shade over an hour so I have not paid hotels much attention. In the past, Delorme's mapping programs listed just about any and every hotel under the sun and you could use a filter for locating such within 1 mile, 5 miles, ect.. I would imagine the info is available on line now? If not there's always Hotels.com, ect. In the past, during charters, most of "us" have elected to stay at the Super 8 on Route 30. I've noticed a few smaller motels a bit closer. As for 'friendly' / refundable deposits, not sure. Super 8, I think you must cancel by 4 PM? Best of luck - I'm sure the info would be most welcome within this thread.

To those questioning me sending Ed a pm, I did so because I was pressed for time and did not know for sure if it was okay to post a business on the forum. I have been a very long time reader of this site but never posted, so here is the note I sent to Ed that has been copy and pasted from my message box.

Try the Wingate on Lincoln Highway in Lancaster, I stayed there a couple of weeks ago and reservations can be cancelled up to 24 hours notice. My room on the 3rd floor away from the highway was a real deal at 71 dollars a night plus tax. Give them a call at 1-717-299-6604. I do not have any connection to this business other than staying for 3 nights and being satisfied.

Vincent

I did just call not ten minutes ago and verified that they need 24 hours notice for changes and cancellations. When I booked my room I called them directly instead of using the website and had a much better room rate than what I could find online.

Thanks guys!
I think I'll just work through Kelly's list until I find someone I can charm into taking care of us.

And yeah, it seems silly to get a hotel when I live in Baltimore, and my dad in Philly, but neither of us are morning people.

Friends and countrymen, no mixed freight on Friday, July 5th. I apologize if this sticks an oar in anyone's plans. We and our Class 1 colleagues will be laying low for the holiday.

Aside from this post - I have not seen... have not noticed any cancelled mixed train alerts on FB nor Strasburg's own web site. Are mixed trains running pretty regularly? Are alerts still being posted? I only ask as sometimes an option presents itself to make plans late the night before.

Also - it would seem to be a good idea to make the event more visible on the web site.

While on that subject - news on the LIRR 4-6-0 engine is pretty hush, too. It would almost appear the only ones who would donate would be those already in the know or through a direct request.

No mixed freight July 19th. This and July 5th have been the only anomaly.

As last time, our social media handlers have been informed. I have no control over the efficacy of their messaging.
