It's really, really educational--and fun. Can't recommend it enough.

I'm not the guy with the blog.

If you are expecting an announcement that it won't be ready, you don't understand how things work.

Have you seen anything since the green paint?

It wasn't ready July 4, it won't be ready for railfest and once that's over, there's no big push.

We'll all know soon enough.

Yes Otto,
Please do tell us about the mistakes and the so called blog you read this information on.
Thanks,

Yes, actually. Lots of pictures from different people showing progress, including but not limited to the photographs that started this entire thread. There never was a plan to have it ready for July 4th. I know Railfest was a potential goal, but the park never made an official statement saying "it will be ready by xx/xx/xxxx."

I humbly state that I believe it is you who does not understand how things work. Now, if you could be so kind as to enlighten all of us, including Mike Tillger, who is involved in the rebuild, as to what these problems are, we would be most appreciative.

Wow, this is tedious. Time to put a stake in it's malevolent heart and return us to regular programming on channels 611 and 4014.

1.) Essentially what we have here is a futile application of a financial instrument that can be called a "conditional put". That is it "pays" if a condition exists at or before a certain time. We use them all the time-property insurance is a conditional put.

In this case, the premium is levered credibility and the payoff is an I told you so victory lap. Seems like a lousy risk/return profile to me. Assuming it occurs, we still don't know if it's a lucky bet.

2.) Speculation flourishes where there is no information. Negative speculation flourishes with the slightest provocation or dissapointment and always propogates further and faster than positive speculation. It is "jammed" by authentic information, i.e., valid, authoritative and timely information from reliable sources. There are a great many things that could end this, inter alia, a scheduled hydro.

3.) Don't give Yogi a pick-a-nick basket. Mr. Ranger isn't going to like that.

Two Points, in English:

One: To my knowledge, Steamtown has never publicly announced a date for the return of the 26.

Two: There is one (1) person who has responded to this thread that has direct experience with the 26 and the current rebuild (and it's not me). Since Mike Tillger has chimed in, I think we have our answer.

Dave

I refer the right honorable gentleman to item 2 in my comments above. I'm not even sure such an announcement, assuming it is possible would pacify the most cynical.

We return you to our regularly schedule programming on Channel 4014.

This thread now has my attention...

We seem to be posting little nasty comments about when the No 26 might or might not be completed, will little evidence of real knowledge. Claims of inside information and a nebulous blog add to the concern...

If the level of discourse deteriorates further I will lock the thread. We may be reviewing member's information, and removing members if needed.

Thank You

Otto claims that additional issues have been found with 26. Mike (who is involved in the restoration) appears to have no idea what these problems are. Conclusion (unless Otto can provide legit sources for his information): There are no new problems with 26 and it will be out when it's out.

That being said, is there a broad time frame in which 26 will be out (within the next 3 months, next 6 months?) If I had to hazard a guess, with all the rumors and sketchy confirmations that another switcher will be at Railfest this year, I would have to assume that 26 won't be done by then. Not stating that as fact, just a conclusion I've drawn
