~facepalm~ Anyway, glad they're starting to get more of them out and about. Considering that there are still actual Conrail units running around there, I wasn't all that excited about the Conrail heritage unit.

Really though, it looks great. I saw a Trains Mag article on facebook today saying the Central of Georgia and Nickel Plate engines are next with the NKP being done possibly by the end of the week.

One of my editors predicted yesterday that somebody's going to complain that the black of the Penn Central unit is off........

There should be a notch in the nose for the bell!!!!! Sorry couldn't resist! That thing looks fantastic! I would love to see that thing at Steamtown with the 514. That would look mighty fine on display during the Lackawanna Rail Days cough cough hint hint ;)

There is a notch in the nose! GE's standard cab has a nose light hole so there's your bell hole. Next up is the MARS light in the nose. Sorry couldn't resist!

LOL. I know you are joking because NS black is entirely different than PC black. If they paint the PC engine in NS black, that will be a sure sign NS doesn't care about history and is just doing this for PR.

The PC units where indeed painted Brunswick Green.

If memory serves...it was established within the pages of the now-departed 'PC Railroader' magazine that the official locomotive color was indeed 'Brunswick Green.'
Also recall that they reproduced a painting diagram as testimony...

It is not Brunswick Green, it is Dark Green Locomotive Enamel (DGLE). Brunswick Green is a different (lighter) color used by the Great Western Railway (U.K.)

And yet another reason why I value this forum... never too old to learn...

All PC units were DGLE?

I never knew that, and it surprises me... especially since I am old enough to remember ex Pennsy locomotives in Pennsy paint next to freshly painted PC locomotives... and coming from a "red team" family I should know they used "our" paint and not the "green team's." I withdraw my snarky humor and respectfully retract all comments about PC "black."

I have to go through some old slides, as I could have sworn there were noticeable differences between DGLE GG-1's and PC repaints. Perhaps it was just my perception, influenced by age of the paint and accumulation of grime?

Were the Amtrak GG-1's black, or is my recollection of those in error, too?

Now can we start discussing Lehigh Valley reds or do we have to wait for the NS tribute unit to be done? ;-)

The level of attention NS has paid to these paint schemes (and the evidence of how deep they went in their research) plus the quantity of units involved is unprecedented in railroading... perhaps in any industry. I love it.
