the 2 treasure hunters say it is not in a tunnel, but may have been on a side track and just buried. If what I am seeing there is the camouflage metal sheathing and then the actual cars/engine? and turrets showing. It should take more detailed surveys what these guys found.

re-edit, now looking harder at the image, if I am looking downwards or if this is a horizontal image, if that is so, the very bottom object is the actual train, above it is a shaft which might make it an actual tunnel which makes it deeper than I thought.

Here is a relatively simple introduction to GPR:

http://www.geo-sense.com/GPRmore.htm

It seems to me, from the false-color imaging in the scan, that some post-processing is being applied to the data sets generated by the radar system itself. It does occur to me, though, that for a buried train we should see sharp transitions between a dense and conductive surface vs. earth that surface has been buried in. That's not present in the image that has been provided.

I'm not going to get old waiting for the 'treasure hunters' to give out the details of how they did their GPR measurement - what equipment they used, how they oriented the antennae, what frequencies and timing were used. Someone more familiar with the technology than I am could probably deduce a great deal from the image provided.

I see lots of sharp transitions in the image. In looking at many examples of GPR imaging of man-made features, I would say that this alleged armored train image is as sharply contrasted as any other GPR image I have seen. But what I find most remarkable is the symmetry of the resolved shapes. I assume that this image looks down vertically at the site. There is always fundamental symmetry in the top view of a train.

As there also is with any other man made box structure.
Could be just about anything in there.

If the radar can do what I think, the imagery we are looking at is a 3D rendered representation of the radar data. If your looking top down you can gather data from surface to however deep the radar can go and extract that data, your radar is covering a scanned area. Its like today we can weather scan clouds and 3D a storm.

All the radar image can possibly be is circumstantial evidence. It will be strong or week in varying degrees, but can’t possibly prove the existence of anything. Nobody is saying that the image proves the existence of the train.

An essential part of determining the strength of the radar evidence is to consider whether the evidence could represent the sought object, and also to consider what other objects could produce the same radar evidence.

If we did not know that the object sought is an armored train with unusually shaped series of masses appearing symmetrical in the top view, with guns protruding, standard gage, about 300 feet long, at such and such depth—if we did not know any of that, the only significance of the radar signature would be its existence. Its actual cause could be anything that could create that image.

People often seek and locate expected buried objects based on the existence of a signature that shows no understandable relationship to the shape of the sought object. The only clue is the existence of a signature where the object is expected. They only know what it is once they dig it up, but without the signature, they would not know where to dig.

In my opinion, this alleged lost armored train radar image is astounding in how plausible its appearance is to being the best image possible for the lost armored train. Anybody conducting this search and getting this image is going to believe they have found the lost armored train, but still, they will not have proved it until they dig it up.

The Army wants all brush and fallen trees cleared from the area before a serious examination is done...

People,

Patience is the key word.

We (as a people) have gotten too used to 24 hour news and expect full answers immediately. We need to slow down, after all this is not a TV show that will be solved in 3 episodes, or a 3 moth season. It will be months before the they expose any metal of this train (between planning, testing, and further examination), because if done properly they can only dig mechanically 90% of the way there, after that they will only be digging with shovels and picks no bigger than your hand, with archaeologists leading it.

It will be years before the whole train is uncovered and examined. Assuming anything is found it maybe a decade before the whole story is released.

Send in Time Team - they do everything in 3 days, generally in the rain.

A new discovery of a tunnel is encouraging, but the government reaction is not:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... y-map.html

They say that want ALL THE FACTS before authorizing any excavation.

What I sense now is a rising defensiveness of the expert authorities on behalf of the government bureaucracy. Treasure hunters claim a find, and expert egos are boxed in, and left only with the position that there is no find. Therefore, based only on their credentials and authority, they must conclude that it is a hoax in order to discredit the treasure hunters’ claim.

The game goes like this:

The public asks, “What is behind that door?”

The experts reply, “Nobody knows, and until it can be proven, that door shall remain shut.”

Yeah, but there's a flip side to that. Someone just ambles up and declares that there's gold in them thar hills, and suddenly, as the government, you're dealing with every slack-jawed treasure seeker on the continent.
In that scenario, where is it really your responsibility to dig anything, just based on that? You're going to then tell taxpayers that you're spending their money to dig there, so someone who probably doesn't live there can get to something cool they never owned at all?
I can't blame governments for defaulting to 'wait and see' mode...

http://www.cnbc.com/2015/09/09/wwii-tunnel-found-in-search-for-nazi-gold-train.html

I see the same voices coming out time after time trying to discredit the "find"...

- Historical Society Members, claiming the "finders" claimed the find before they could

- Some local government officials, citing "no evidence" and then admitting they hadn't been shown the radar image

- Prof. Dr Hossein Tudeshki from the Institute of Mining of the Technical University of Clausthal claiming the image is a cheap computer animation because he doesn't think the technology is at that level yet... but as the manufacturer's web site I posted a few days ago proves, it is. Hit the books, Prof...

I still suspect there may be certain private agendas at work, with potentially corrupt individuals wanting to discredit the find and end the search, so they can sneak in and scoop up the spoils. Hey, I'm a cynic, but I do smell something rotten at work.

Hopefully the national government will do the right thing and push the exploration, in a calm and logical manner, until the item in the radar image is identified.

A funny thought occurs related to the newly found railway tunnel with added corridors and chambers... wouldn't it be funny if someone started searching it, turned a corner, and found themselves face to face with the train that doesn't exist.

:-)

Easy, Steve. I think it's a given they won't find one of these in there:

If the Polish government waits until all the facts are known before they dig, they will never dig. All they have to do is bore a 6” hole down where the GP radar image says the tunnel is. It should break through at the elevation indicated by the data. Then drop down a video camera with lighting and see what it reveals.
