A railfan in Belgium is asking about MLW #74657 1946 NMBS 29.160 which was last of 160 steam locomotives built by MLW for his country. (There were more from other builders in US totally 300)

He wants a photo of same for personal reasons.

Q? Would the Alco Archives contain MLW photos and what is address for same?

I can't help you with your query; but I thought that you and others might like to know more about them. He might also be able to help me with a question.

They were part of the batch of S-160 type locomotives built by North America for the UNRRA after the war. Others went to China, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Turkey and Yugoslavia; and Yugoslavia built copies of them during the 1950s.

I believe others when to Mexico as well; and I think #610 at the TVRM is really of this class of locomotive. As mentioned before, #610 is actually slightly larger than the wartime S-160s; which were built to British loading guage.

The picture I linked to below is of 29.013, the sole preserved example at the Belgium National Railways Museum, Louvain, Belgium. However, three others were at one time in use as stationary boilers around the country. Two were at Louvain, Belgium; and one at the Haine-St. Pierre works, Belgium. Perhaps your contact may know something about their fate?
