Post subject: Moscow, Camden & San Augustine Combine
PostPosted: Fri Jun 18, 2004 4:11 pm

Does anyone know if the former Long Island Rail Road wooden combine that last served on the Moscow, Camden & San Augustine shortline railroad in Texas until the late '60's is still in existance? I know a large number of that lines steam locomotives made it into preservation and I am curious if the combine was as lucky.

Yes, it survived. I believe the combine went to the Reader Railroad which still owns it, and that it is presently on the property of the Dardanelle & Russellville Railroad in Arkansas.

I took the picture below at Reader, Arkansas in 1997; before #4 went to Florida and then the D&R. I did not know the heritage of the car, but I am guessing it is the one in question.

Glen Brewer is correct; the car is stored on the D&R at Dardanelle, AR, or at least it was as of last summer when I saw it there. I would describe its condition when I saw it as "fair". I believe the steps were removed and the windows boarded up.
