Does anybody know whatever became of ex-B&HS 2-6-2 No. 250's original Baldwin-built tender? On the Wolfeboro RR in New Hampshire in the 1970s she received a replacement tender from an ex-CV pile driver--does her original tender stil exist in NH, or was it scrapped? |

Kurt, I don't know if it was scrapped, but I don't remember seeing it hanging around either. Former Wolfeboro volunteer (and Walker Transportation Collection curator) Richard Symmes, may know the answer to this question. Email me if you have trouble contacting him. To all who were curious about the whereabouts of #250's tender, here is Richard Symmes response: "Hi, I was a volunteer at the WRR in the 1970's. Worked on the #250 before it was initially steamed up there. The original tender I believe was junked after it was replaced in the second or third year by the longer tender which we were told by owner Don Hallock came from a Maine Central 0-8-0 switcher!!?? (First I heard of it coming from a CV pile driver!!!???) I have no idea what became of the original leaky tender, but assumed it was junked. You might contact Rick Libby at (hopefully) 24 Glendon St. in Wolfeboro. He was actively involved in the mechcanical goings on up there at the time. Also a man named Jim Moore, but have no address for him after all these years. He was WRR Master Mechanic. Last I heard he was in the North Conway area someplace. Sorry I can't be of more help. By the way, why the interest in the 250? She currently resides at the former Edaville RR in S. Carver, Mass. where her future is unknown. Richard W. Symmes Curator, Walker Trans. Don Hallock was another one of those guys who personally took the time with me as a kid to help steam make an idellible impact... trains@robertjohndavis.com |

At the time, I was told by the WRR folks that 250's "new" tender was indeed from the Maine Central and was last used on a pile driver rig. I assumed it was a typical work train hand-me-down from a retired MEC steam locomotive. It certainly could have been from an 0-8-0.
