Post subject:  ex-BAR cabooses - update

The former Bangor and Aroostook cabooses, re-built from ex Pullman troop sleepers, are not gone as reported in another posting. The update is as such: Scrappers are active in the field where the cars are stored. There are about four wood sided/outside steel frame boxcars, turned track crew cars on the site. The worst cases have been cut up. I counted four of the cabooses still intact. They are probably doomed however, as they have pulled to one side by a skidder. Most of the windows are gone, but they are still in very good condition. I saw none of the original trucks remaining for these cars. What was good to see was the removal of the best caboose! One the original paint cabooses, intact and undamaged, had been loaded on a flatbed truck and was being taken somewhere. If it was going to be cut up, they would have already started it onsite. Maybe she's gonna be a lakeside camp? Maybe a railroad hobbiest got her. Anyway, one is being saved. The remaining cars are all for sale, btw. Owner is Diane Jones, of Brownville, Maine. At onetime she owned a string of ex-B&M transfer cabeese down in the deep south (New Hampshire).
