Found this on the Jim Dobbas website... Maybe Doyle would like his own Daylight set: 1949 Pullman Standard Passenger Car One of six cars of this series built for the Southern Pacific by Pullman Standard. It was originally named "Golden View" and was built for the Chicago - Los Angeles Golden State train. During that time it contained a forty-seat lounge with a quarter circle bar, barbershop, shower and stewards room. It was retired from regular service in 1971 and converted to a conference/ instruction car in the early 1970's Jim Dobbas Inc |

Sister car to the Overland Trail. From their web pages: "The Overland Trail is a 39 seat Club Lounge passenger car with a barbershop and shower, built in 1949 by the Pullman Standard Car Manufacturing Company for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Originally numbered SP 2981, the car was specifically ordered for the San Francisco Overland, a train jointly operated by the Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, and the Chicago & North Western railroads between Chicago, IL and Oakland, CA. One of six sisters, cars 2981, 2982, and 2983 were assigned to the San Francisco Overland, while cars 2984 and 2985 were assigned to the Golden State. Car 2986 found itself assigned to the famed City of San Francisco. The 2981 served faithfully, racking up millions of miles for the Southern Pacific during its railroad career, however, as the fortunes of passenger trains waned in the 1950's and 60's, so too did the glory of this stylish railcar, when in October of 1966, the beautiful lounge of 2981 was stripped and converted into a dance floor. Purchased by Amtrak in 1971, she finished her 'revenue' railroad career assigned to Amtrak's Reno Fun Train serving as a bar/dance car running between Oakland and Reno, NV." And the car is going to be out and about this week on an LA/Portland roundtrip along with the former UP Budd 10/6 "Pacific Sands", leaving LA on 6/24. Overland Trail teamzurg@earthlink.net |

The car is for sale last time I inquired about the car they wanted $20,000 which is double what it is worth. This car is missing draft gear on one end and the interior is pretty much a shell of what it used to be. Also missing many truck parts and most brake valves and cylinders. |
