Not full-size but it is vintage, despite its size. The famous Becker Dairy Farm's railroad alive and well, running today in Phillipsburg, NJ. It's 9-7/16" gauge but perfect 2" scale. The equipment was built in the early 40s I believe. -Ed Kelley Centerville & Southwestern #1503 Pic GTNGRR@aol.com |

The #1501 steam locomotive was built in the 40s, my bad the #1503 (no exact date) was in the 50s I believe. I should also check Live Steam to get dates on the #1503. I had heard that Louis MacDermot beat the SP by making more modern pacifcs then they owned at the time for his 19" gauge Overfair steam railway. -Ed Kelley GTNGRR@aol.com |

The Centerville & Southwestern 4-8-4 No.1501 was built in 1939 along with a "diesel" No. 1502 built in 1940 which was later rebuilt as a double ender. The 1501 and 1502 were built by Hobart Ayers, former president of H.K. Porter Co. The 1502 is in the Phillipsburg collection but currently in storage. The 1503 "diesel" was built at the Becker Dairy Farm in 1958 by Henry Becker. All 31 cars are also at Phillipsburg but most are in storage. The 1501 was donated to the Henry Ford Museum in 1974 but was auctioned off in the 80's. The engine is currently in private hands. The wooden patterns and plans from which the 1501 was created are preserved and could one day be used to create a brand new 2" scale "Pocono". The Centerville & Southwestern was a unique minature railroad. All rolling stock is equipped with working airbrake systems. The original railroad had a complete working block signal system along with passing sidings and turntable. There have been several articles on this unique miniature railroad including a Chapter in Fredrick Shaw's book, "Little Railways of the World". Hope this helps. Keith Muldowney cagney9@att.net |
